Commit Funds Necessary To Keep St Joseph’s Dementia Care Home Open

People Before Profit TD calls for Government to immediately commit funds necessary to keep St Joseph’s dementia care home open

Closure would be total disaster for dementia suffers and their families in the area and cannot be allowed to happen

People Before Profit TD for Dún Laoghaire Richard Boyd Barrett has said that the closure of the St Joseph’s dementia care home in Shankill would be “shocking and totally unacceptable” and would be a disaster for dementia sufferers and their families in the area.

He said that the government must immediately commit the necessary funding to keep the facility open.

He said: “The closure if this facility in Shankill would be an absolute disaster for people living with dementia in the area and their families. The government must provide the necessary funding to keep the centre open.

“The government tell us consistently that we as a nation have never spent more money on health and yet this centre which is of massive value to dementia sufferers and their families in Shankill and a wide area beyond is set to close due to funding issues. This is shocking and unacceptable and must not be allowed to happen.”

Deputy Boyd Barrett has tabled a topical issue on the matter for today in the Dáil.
