On Mayday, the five unions fighting water charges held a conference in Dublin. The aim was to bring union members, community groups and political representatives into dialogue around a progressive alternative to the current establishment. In a statement on the government’s new push of private health insurance Adrienne Wallace People Before Profit candidate in the upcoming Carlow-Kilkenny by-election said, “The reliance on the private sector to provide public goods and the privatisation myth has got to end. It has opened a potential to build a significant Left, working class political movement.

Alongside this great demonstration of people power many were also protesting against TTIP, or the Trans-Atlantic Trade and Investment Partnership, as part of a massive worldwide “Global Day of Action” against it and similar 'free' trade agreements, with over 750 protests worldwide.

Irish Water has been set up to get us to pay another double tax. In this pamphlet Cllr Brid Smith of People Before Profit explains how water is becoming the new oil, how the set up of Irish Water has nothing to do with ‘conservation’- it’s about taking money from the majority and preparing the ground for privatisation. She looks at the experience of Bolivia which shows that people power can fight back and we can win.

The government and Irish Water often boast about a high registration rate for Irish water.
People before Profit has information that these registrations of names and addresses were not all registrations made by the occupier.
