John Flanagan

Dia daoibh a chairde, I am running as a candidate in the Rathfarnham-Templeogue local electoral area in the upcoming local elections. I am originally from Whitecliff in Ballyboden and attended Coláiste Eanna in Ballyroan. I am a nurse of 20 years and have spent the last 3 years working as a Prison Substance Misuse Nurse, previous to that I spent 12 years working in various roles within Dublin Simon Community, both as a Detox nurse and manager of their Rough Sleeper Team, I am trained to masters level and have spent my entire nursing career on the frontline of mental health services. My wife and mother of our two children Rossa (3) and Aodhla (1) is a midwife and has also worked in the homeless sector. We are both acutely aware of the damage being done in our communities by a Government which lacks the political will to solve our most pressing crisis, chief among them homelessness and our crumbling health service. If elected I will use my position to foster and develop local campaigns at grassroots level. Put an end to parish pump politics, end the domination of our councils by the staid politics of Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael and the Labour Party.
My Pledge
• If elected, I will not go on any junkets and I will oppose any budget which cuts public services.
• I will be a watchdog that stops funding for consultants and private concerns that rip us off.
• The real way to bring change is through people power, and informing people of the shortcomings of local councils.
• If elected, I shall rally the community to oppose water charges which haven’t gone away and I will fight for proper local services and environmental protection.
