Cllr Hugh Lewis

Hugh was first elected for the Ballybrack ward for Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council in 2009, he is currently elected for the since renamed Killiney-Shankil LEA. Hugh has been at the forefront of many campaigns in Dún Laoghaire and nationally, fighting for progressive social change, demanding people’s rights and protecting our environment.

Most recently Hugh has been central to the successful referendum campaign to repeal the 8th amendment. He was previously a passenger on the Irish Ship to Gaza, he spearheaded locally the campaign to keep Dublin Bay oil rig free and the successful campaign to defeat domestic water charges. Hugh has been working for the past years to assist people in securing a home and is an active vocal opponent of the governments housing policy.

Hugh is currently serving as the chairperson of the Traveller Accommodation Consultative Committee and the chairperson of Planning Strategic Policy Committee on Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council. Hugh is People Before Profit’s longest serving County Councilor.
