Gerry Carroll MLA Calls For “A Riot At The Ballot Box”

In the wake of Sinn Fein’s unwillingness to call for a public enquiry into the Renewable Heat Incentive Scheme, People Before Profit MLA Gerry Carroll has reiterated his party’s call for an election, stating that there needs to be “a riot at the ballot box” and that People Before Profit plan to make an “audacious intervention” into the election should one be called.

“We cannot allow the Executive to procrastinate on this issue any longer. People across the North are facing increasing hardship. And they are livid that nearly £500 million could be squandered, with such little consequence for the DUP.  Sinn Fein has made it clear that they do not want to see a public enquiry. We disagree. We cannot have the establishment investigating the establishment. There needs to be a full, public accounting for the RHI debacle.”

“The Executive is unsustainable. The public should now have their say, and be given the opportunity to voice their anger at the incompetence and corruption that has become endemic in the Assembly. Working class people, whether they be protestant, catholic or neither, should join to together to give the Stormont establishment a bloody nose. It’s time for a riot at the ballot box.”

“If the First Minister doesn’t step down, and Sinn Fein once again fails to bring down the Assembly in the face of corruption, then the gravy train will be allowed to continue. We don’t think this should be allowed to happen. I have been knocking doors in West Belfast since Christmas and the message I’m hearing loud and clear is that people are fed up – the people of the Falls and the Shankill didn’t vote for their money to be squandered.”

“If an election is called, People Before Profit will be making an audacious intervention that will appeal to working class people to unite against the priorities of the DUP and not be distracted by the recent showboating of Sinn Fein. We need to see an alternative which works for all and this is what People Before Profit will represent if an election is called.”
